Inspiration
I am thinking about inspiration, like most this time of year. Looking forward to longer, brighter days now that we are past the solstice. Looking backward at the amazing year this has been. The seeds of inspiration are already planted, waiting to grow, waiting to be nurtured. I feel that I am ready for whatever blows my way. Calm. Open. Hopeful.

Happy Solstice

The lunar eclipse on this solstice was hidden by clouds from my eyes but it made me think of this little horse. I have had this little horse since I was five. A girl from Sweden was a part of my kindergarten class for half the year and she shared St. Lucia Day with us. I don't remember much more than the candle crown and this little horse that was a gift from her. But I have always thought of it as a light on the darkest day. I know that it is celebrated on December 13th, but it seemed to be appropriate to light a candle on this particular darkest day. So, here's to brighter, longer days.

Winter texture

The winter cold and snow has begun. Only a little snow here. Mostly it has been bitter cold and dry or milder and raining.
Thanks to Cathy Cullis, for finding these sculptures by Danny Mansmith that I really like. Such grand color and texture, wonderful mark making.

Small and consuming
This little bowl (or is it a basket) made with rag was inspired by Penny Berens. As soon as a I saw her beautiful 'scrappy wrappings' I new I would have to give it a try. I made a few pieces with this technique in college, but that was a very long time ago. It is fun and consuming... I had to force myself to put it down and go to bed.

Waiting
This 'painting with fabric' piece is waiting to decide if it is done or if there is more to be done. Sometimes that decision takes some time. You can click on this photo to see it larger... there is some subtle detail that is hard to see in the small view.
This was a little difficult to photograph. I had to figure out some of the non-automatic stuff on my camera. The piece measures 27 x 27, which is kinda large for me.
